What this worksheet helps you decide
Work backward from your intended trail start to a practical leave-home clock. It provides a transparent working copy of one defined question, not a complete journey plan. The relevant inputs and the scope of the calculation stay visible beside the result.
The most useful result is not always the most favorable number. It may be a shortfall that tells you to revisit an allowance, a comparison that exposes a hidden fee, or a reminder that your source information needs checking.
How to use it
- Define one scenario. Use information you have checked for your own trip. Replace every example field that differs from your plan.
- Check units and reference dates. Keep amounts in the units shown. Clock values share one reference clock; a currency label does not convert money.
- Calculate and read the components. Compare the result with the method below. If a source value is uncertain, calculate a second scenario rather than treating one answer as certain.
- Keep a copy deliberately. Download or print only after reviewing the result. Changing an input marks the old result stale; calculate again before exporting.
Method and calculation rules
Add the driving, parking/approach and final preparation allowances, then subtract that total from your intended trail-start clock. Day offsets are shown when the calculation crosses midnight. All times use one reference clock; no time-zone conversion is performed.
The method describes what is counted and what is not. A displayed quantity can be rounded for readability; rounding does not make an input more accurate. Do not substitute a result for facts this worksheet does not retrieve.
A worked example
A 09:00 trail start minus 70 minutes of driving, 15 minutes to park and approach, and 20 minutes to prepare gives a leave-home time of 07:15 on the same day.
Important limits
This does not check road access, opening hours, traffic, parking availability or the trail’s condition. Enter extra allowance yourself and verify the access arrangements.
Use this worksheet while stationary. It cannot monitor your journey, notify another traveler or provide emergency help. If a result appears wrong, stop relying on it and send a non-sensitive reproducible example through the Contact page.
Questions about this tool
Does it retrieve a driving estimate?
No. Enter a researched duration and account for uncertainty yourself. The tool does not connect to maps or traffic services.
What if the departure is the day before?
The result labels the previous-day offset. Your intended trail start is the reference day; the clock is not tied to a real calendar date.
