What this worksheet helps you decide
Add a listed kit, water and food, then compare the total with your own planning target. It provides a transparent working copy of one defined question, not a complete journey plan. The relevant inputs and the scope of the calculation stay visible beside the result.
The most useful result is not always the most favorable number. It may be a shortfall that tells you to revisit an allowance, a comparison that exposes a hidden fee, or a reminder that your source information needs checking.
How to use it
- Define one scenario. Use information you have checked for your own trip. Replace every example field that differs from your plan.
- Check units and reference dates. Keep amounts in the units shown. Clock values share one reference clock; a currency label does not convert money.
- Calculate and read the components. Compare the result with the method below. If a source value is uncertain, calculate a second scenario rather than treating one answer as certain.
- Keep a copy deliberately. Download or print only after reviewing the result. Changing an input marks the old result stale; calculate again before exporting.
Method and calculation rules
Add the kilograms in the dry-kit list, add approximately one kilogram for each liter of water, then add food mass. Target margin equals your entered target minus that total. The target is user-defined, not a body-weight or medical recommendation.
The method describes what is counted and what is not. A displayed quantity can be rounded for readability; rounding does not make an input more accurate. Do not substitute a result for facts this worksheet does not retrieve.
A worked example
0.9 + 0.7 + 0.3 kg of dry kit, 2 L of water and 0.6 kg of food total 4.5 kg. Against a chosen 6 kg target, the margin is 1.5 kg.
Important limits
A weight total cannot decide whether a pack is appropriate, complete, comfortable or safe. Do not remove necessary equipment solely to make the number smaller.
Use this worksheet while stationary. It cannot monitor your journey, notify another traveler or provide emergency help. If a result appears wrong, stop relying on it and send a non-sensitive reproducible example through the Contact page.

Does it save my gear list?
No automatic list storage is included. Download the current result if you want to keep a copy.
