Behind the field guide

A named author, an honest scope and eight ways to organize your own information.

What TrailByTyre is here to do

TrailByTyre is a drive-to-trail planning website. It focuses on the gap between reaching an access point and starting an outdoor day with an understandable personal plan. Eight worksheets separate departure timing, entered daylight allowances, kit weight, user-chosen water quantities, ascent assumptions, pass costs, section paces and personal reminders. The aim is to expose assumptions, not turn a browser result into permission to head out.

The field guide is for people organizing their own outdoor day and the drive around it. A group may use one sheet for a departure clock and another for a kit list; an individual may simply compare an entered pass price with repeated entry fees. The tools are not a substitute for learning suitable outdoor skills, researching the actual route or checking conditions with appropriate sources.

Eight tools, eight focused questions

Choose the tool that matches the decision in front of you. Each one works from information you enter; none should be read as a live quote or a provider’s approval.

  • Trailhead Launch Timeline. Work backward from your intended trail start to a practical leave-home clock.
  • Daylight Return Margin. Compare an entered outing duration with an entered sunset and your own return reserve.
  • Water Carry Worksheet. Translate your chosen per-person water allowance into a group carry total.
  • Pack Weight Audit. Add a listed kit, water and food, then compare the total with your own planning target.
  • Ascent Time Sandbox. Separate flat-distance time from your entered ascent and stop allowances.
  • Park Pass Comparison. Compare repeated entered entry fees with a pass that you have checked covers those entries.
  • Two-Section Pace Plan. Give two parts of a walk different entered paces instead of using one average.
  • Outdoor Day Checklist. Turn your own categorized reminders into a checkable, printable day sheet.

Start with your figures. Keep the assumptions visible.

Begin with the units and field labels, replace the sample numbers, then read the method alongside the result. If a price, date or allowance is uncertain, try more than one reasonable value. A change in the answer is useful information about the plan’s sensitivity—not evidence that the tool has discovered a new fact about your journey.

Examples are there to explain a calculation. They are not advertised prices, first-hand reviews or a recommendation to choose a particular provider. The site does not turn an estimated figure into a guarantee simply because it appears in a neatly formatted result.

Behind TrailByTyre

Sara is the named author and site contact for TrailByTyre. The website launched on . You can reach Sara through support@trailbytyre.online or the contact form for questions about the site, unclear instructions or suspected errors.

The author name identifies the person presented with this website; it is not a claim of professional accreditation, transport-industry affiliation or travel experience that has not been documented. The site’s value should come from understandable methods and useful explanations, not invented credentials.

A field guide, not a route authority

The site does not publish an automatically verified trail database or claim that its author has walked every place a visitor is considering. The supplied forest-road hero is AI-generated editorial illustration, not a photograph documenting a particular route. Water rates, pace values and return reserves are explicitly user-chosen assumptions. They are not medical advice, recognized hiking rules or safety thresholds prescribed by this site.

What the tools cannot decide for you

TrailByTyre is not a navigation service, weather service, emergency coordinator, outdoor guide or medical adviser. It does not retrieve current sunset times, trail closures, access conditions, potable-water availability or live parking information. A positive margin is arithmetic, not a safe-to-go decision. Use suitable official and local sources and adapt the plan to your actual group and conditions.

Use the tools before departure or while safely stopped. Do not interact with them while driving, crossing a road or doing anything that requires your full attention. Allow for uncertainty, changing conditions and the needs of everyone traveling. If an answer seems inconsistent with reality, stop and check both your inputs and the underlying source information.

Browser-based tools, with separate website services

The supplied calculators and builders carry out their calculations in the open browser page. They do not require a tool account or automatically upload entered calculation values to a dedicated calculation server. Export or print a result if you want a copy; do not rely on the open page as a permanent record.

TrailByTyre also uses Google Analytics, and the site’s contact forms process messages you submit. Those website services are separate from the calculation code. Advertising may be introduced, but is not represented here as an active service. Read the Privacy Policy for the fuller distinction, including cookies, contact messages and your choices.

Clear controls and room for different needs

The tools are designed around labeled inputs, readable results and explanations that do not depend on decorative animation. Where a motion control is provided, you can switch the decoration off; reduced-motion preferences are also taken into account in the supplied design. Your planning information should remain understandable without the animation.

We welcome reports about an unclear label, a keyboard obstacle, a screen-reader issue or a layout that makes a task harder. Include the page, browser and a short description of what happened. Do not send confidential documents or private travel records to demonstrate a problem.

Questions, corrections and practical feedback

Email support@trailbytyre.online or use the Contact page. For a calculation issue, include the tool name, selected units, non-sensitive example inputs, the result you expected and the result you saw. That gives the site contact a reproducible example to investigate.
