Water Carry Worksheet

Translate your chosen per-person water allowance into a group carry total.

Your scenario

Starting values are examples, not recommendations. Replace them, read the method, then calculate.

What this worksheet helps you decide

Translate your chosen per-person water allowance into a group carry total. It provides a transparent working copy of one defined question, not a complete journey plan. The relevant inputs and the scope of the calculation stay visible beside the result.

The most useful result is not always the most favorable number. It may be a shortfall that tells you to revisit an allowance, a comparison that exposes a hidden fee, or a reminder that your source information needs checking.

How to use it

  1. Define one scenario. Use information you have checked for your own trip. Replace every example field that differs from your plan.
  2. Check units and reference dates. Keep amounts in the units shown. Clock values share one reference clock; a currency label does not convert money.
  3. Calculate and read the components. Compare the result with the method below. If a source value is uncertain, calculate a second scenario rather than treating one answer as certain.
  4. Keep a copy deliberately. Download or print only after reviewing the result. Changing an input marks the old result stale; calculate again before exporting.

Method and calculation rules

Base water equals people × hours × your entered liters-per-person-per-hour allowance. Extra water equals people × your entered reserve. The planning total is the sum; approximate water mass uses 1 liter ≈ 1 kilogram and excludes containers.

The method describes what is counted and what is not. A displayed quantity can be rounded for readability; rounding does not make an input more accurate. Do not substitute a result for facts this worksheet does not retrieve.

A worked example

Three people for four hours at an entered 0.4 L per person per hour give 4.8 L. Adding 0.5 L per person produces 6.3 L in total, or 2.1 L each.

Important limits

The tool does not determine anyone’s hydration needs, potable-water availability or a safe carrying amount. Inputs are your assumptions; heat, health, exertion and route conditions require appropriate independent guidance.

Use this worksheet while stationary. It cannot monitor your journey, notify another traveler or provide emergency help. If a result appears wrong, stop relying on it and send a non-sensitive reproducible example through the Contact page.

Questions about this tool

Does the sample rate recommend how much to drink?

No. It is arithmetic demonstration only. Choose an appropriate plan independently and do not rely on an unverified refill source.

Are bottles included in the weight?

No. The approximate mass concerns the water alone. Add container weight separately in the Pack Weight Audit.
